Dispelling the leadership myth

The first thing we need to understand is what leadership is and what it is not.

In this respect, I would like to dispel the biggest myth about leadership that pervades the corridors of organizations and institutions the world over:

Leadership is NOT a position!

You do not have to be called a "leader" before you need to know about leadership.

You may even say to me: "But John, I don't lead anyone. Nobody reports to me." That may be true, but who said that you weren't a leader?

That's right. You did!

Then, you must be a hermit living in a cave someplace, never interacting with anyone. Not even interacting with yourself.

Why should anyone be led by you?

Rob Goffee from LBS posing that difficult question.
